Lore: Amplifying Connections
Lore is a digital recipe book for your family recipes that you wish to preserve over the years, helping in amplifying connections among your loved ones and giving you a platform to recreate it through the one thing that brings people together, no matter what - food. A lack of social connection can lead to isolation and loneliness - especially for people living away from family and friends. Surveys show that loneliness has grown by 30% after the pandemic outbreak. Living alone and the lack of social interaction have all contributed to loneliness. How can we amplify connections between families who are far away and stay connected?
Lore is a device that follows a non-linear approach to cooking. It is an intelligent chopping board with an app that records and stores recipes from your loved ones, guiding you when you cook, just like a lazy Sunday meal with them. It forms connections around food through a sense of taste, family recipes and home-cooked food nostalgia, connecting people across their generations.

What is Lore exactly?
Lore is a smart chopping board that comes with an app for its ease of use. The app is designed, keeping in mind the technological challenges that is faced by the older generations. We have kept the interface simple and minimal without distractions to ensure the ease of usage.
It encourages the older generations to share their knowledge on cooking and record recipes through the app either by audio recording (Speech-to-text), scanning images or by video recording while cooking. In case an older member is finding it difficult to record, you could even record your call and upload the audio yourself. The intention is to make it as easy to use for everyone and ensure that they are able to rekindle the times spent in the kitchen cooking up family meals just like the old days.
Our research led us to understand the effects of isolation on mental health and the benefits of social and familial relationships on life expectancy. Through primary analysis, we observed that food has power and is a medium through which families connect. Therefore, creating a design solution that was engaging and evoked nostalgia was necessary for our ideation process.
